Nascido em 1981 na cidade de Porto Alegre. Aos 2 anos de idade foi morar no interior do Rio Grande do Sul e, logo com 7 anos, subiu no palco pela primeira vez em um festival estudantil. Herdou dos pais o gosto pela MPB ao crescer ouvindo canções de Cartola, Noel, Chico, Paulinho da Viola. Essas melodias deixaram no ouvido uma influência que se tornaria evidente e definitiva.
Desde a infância o dom pela arte, a sensibilidade e a musicalidade aumentavam. Ao passar dos anos o talento se aprimorou. Contudo, a pouca idade não permitia prever o que estava por vir. Aos 17 anos, voltou à capital gaúcha para estudar Biologia na UFRGS. Na metade da faculdade, porém, a música falou mais alto. Inevitavelmente o artista se entregou à paixão que passou a ser profissão. E a música sorriu, agradeceu e o recompensou com muita inspiração.
Fez-se intérprete com o grupo Feijoada Completa e na andança pelos palcos sentiu crescer fortemente o ímpeto de criar, assim, veio o compositor, depois o arranjador. Foi assim que a música se ofereceu generosa para um artista de alma popular e brasileira.
Como letrista e melodista, manifesta influências de múltiplos gêneros e estilos, com excelência e sensibilidade que acusam uma veia poética e um rigor estético-musical já reconhecido por diversos músicos, compositores e críticos culturais. Tanto os peritos da arte quanto os ouvintes mais atentos ficarão surpresos com a harmonia inusitada de “Malandro” e “Recado”, outros se deixarão levar pela melodia lânguida e profunda de “Se eu morrer amanhã” e, ainda, outros se empolgarão com a agilidade e fluidez das letras que remontam imagens e sensações, aguçando nos sentidos os sentimentos mais diversos.
Dono de uma voz equilibrada e de timbre suave, Caio Martinez surgiu como destaque na recente safra de intérpretes. Não é apenas um sambista talentoso, mas um cantor completo. Romântico, irônico, introspectivo, debochado. Enfim, o que a música pede ele oferece. Se quiser, adianta, atrasa, recita, faz breque, muda de tom no meio de uma palavra e aterrissa com perfeição na última sílaba, tudo isto com o maior balanço.
Não há muita gente por aí capaz dessas proezas, por isso chama tanto a atenção ao usar a voz com requinte para cantar bossas, valsas e serestas ou jogar com balanço em um samba mais ritmado. As várias facetas deste intérprete retratam o estilo com que incorpora as canções para transmiti-las de forma envolvente, através de sua singular e marcante interpretação. Sempre uma roupagem elegante para obras de todas as épocas.
Tem participado de diversos Festivais pelo Brasil acumulando prêmios de 1° lugar (Coxilha Negra e Tafona da Canção), melhor arranjo (Festival de Música Porto Alegre e Moenda da Canção), melhor letra e melhor grupo musical (Canto da Lagoa). Participou recentemente do 6º FEM - Festival Nacional de MPB, recebendo elogios de grandes artistas.
Com tanta música fervendo em sua cabeça chegou o momento de mostrar sua obra. Atualmente, Caio prepara em seu estúdio o primeiro disco chamado Coisas nossas. Um trabalho independente e inteiramente autoral que transcorre suave nas curvas do samba e faz zigue-zague entre valsa, samba-canção, maxixe, bossa, samba-de-breque, partido alto, marchinha e gafieira. Um passeio que transcorre em várias direções, mas apontando sempre para sua alma brasileira de maneira viva, atual e interessante.
Caio Martinez’s popular soul
Caio was born in 1981 in Porto Alegre. At the age of two he moved to the countryside of Rio Grande do Sul and when he was seven years old he took the stage for the first time in a school festival. He inherited fondness for MPB from his parents while growing up listening to Cartola’s, Noel’s, Chico’s and Paulinho da Viola’s songs. These melodies gave him the influence that would become evident and definitive.
Since childhood the gift of art, sensitivity and musicality have increased. Over the years his talent has improved. However, the young age didn’t allow predicting what was coming. At seventeen, he returned to the capital of Rio Grande do Sul to study biology at UFRGS. Halfway through college, the music was louder. Inevitably the artist gave himself to the passion that has become a profession. And the music smiled, thanked and rewarded him with a lot of inspiration.
He became an interpreter with the group Feijoada Completa and on the stages he felt strongly the urge for creating, thus the composer appeared and then the arranger. That’s how the music offered itself generously to an artist with a popular and Brazilian soul.
As a lyricist and melodist, he shows influences from multiple genres and styles, with excellence and sensitivity that accuse a poetic vein and a musical aesthetic rigor already recognized by several musicians, composers and cultural critics. Both the art experts as the most attentive listeners will be surprised with the unusual harmony of “Malandro” and “Recado”, others will let themselves go into the deep and languid melody of “Se eu morrer amanhã”, and others will be excited with the agility and fluidity of the lyrics which dating back images and feelings, stimulating lots of different feelings in their senses.
Owner of a balanced voice and tender tone, Caio Martinez has appeared with distinction among the current performers. He is not just a talented sambista, but a complete singer. Romantic, ironic, insightful and sardonic. Anyway, what the music asks, he offers. If he desires, he delays, recites, makes brake, changes tone in the middle of a word, and lands perfectly on the last syllable, all with a great balance.
There aren’t many people able of doing these feats, therefore it calls so much attention when he uses the voice with sophistication to sing bossa, waltz and serenade or play with swing in a rhythmic samba. Several facets of this artist show the style that incorporates the songs to convey them so engaging, through its unique and remarkable interpretation. He always has an elegant form for opus of all periods.
He has participated in several festivals in Brazil accumulating awards for 1st place (Tafona da Canção and Coxilha Negra), best arrangement (Porto Alegre Music Festival, Moenda da Canção and Musicanto), best lyrics and best musical group (Canto da Lagoa). He has participated recently in the 6th FEM – National MPB Festival, receiving praise from great artists.
With so much music boiling in his head, it’s time to show his work. Currently, Caio is preparing in his studio his first album called Coisas nossas. It is an independent and authorial work which passes softly through the curves of samba and makes a zigzag among waltz, samba-canção, maxixe, bossa, samba-de-breque, partido-alto, marchinha and gafieira. It is a trip that passes in many directions, but always pointing to his Brazilian soul in a living, current and interesting way.
